We welcome non-members to some of our events and programmes.
In November 2013, HKGS hosted Tony Kirkham, Head of Horticulture at London's Kew Garden. Mr Kirkham conducted a tree walk and talk entitled Root Awakening, sharing the lessons learned from the Great Storm of 1987 when Kew lost 50 trees overnight. Mr Kirkham emphasized the importance of tree care and succession planting. We also learned about his pioneering work to replicate nature in maintaining the health of trees’ unseen root systems and the latest thinking on arboricultural practices.
HKGS invited senior officials from the Agricultural and Fisheries Department, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Tree Management Office of the Development Bureau, Members of the Expert Panel on Tree Management, and non-profit organisations such as Kadoorie Farm, Hong Kong Botanical Garden and Jao Tsung-I Academy to the lecture. More than 80 members and guests attended.
The Butterfly Garden Project is our gift to the community and we welcome schools and other organisations wishing to start their own butterfly gardens to get in touch.
